Santa Monica, CA, March 05, 2010 --(PR.com)-- An exhibition of photographs by JonAeon entitled Aliens Among Us will be presented by Flying Saucers Art and Caffeine Gallery March 5 – 31.

March 5th from 8 - 11pm. Ryan Morris, owner and curator of Flying Saucers, will host the art opening and artist reception for JonAeon. The art opening is free, open to the public and in keeping with the exhibition theme, the wearing of ‘alien attire’ is encouraged. MXF and Ofunne will spin Saucers with grooves for your moves. Flying Saucers Art and Caffeine Gallery is located at 306 Pico Blvd. Free parking in back, free wifi inside. Don’t miss this opportunity to see what fashion forward aliens will be wearing next season, as the evening is certain to be out of this world.

The Aliens Among Us photographic exhibition features two bodies of work by JonAeon, one themed ‘contemporary alien’ (produced 2010), one themed ‘classic alien’ (produced 1978).

In 1978, under the auspices of the Bay Area Rapid Transit system (BART), JonAeon, then predominately a performance artist, created “BART ART,” in which he performed the role of SL7, The Silver Android. In originating the performance persona of SL7, JonAeon created the first of a kind, and thus can be seen as the grandfather of all silver robotic mimes worldwide.

Life size grainy black and white photos of JonAeon as SL7 appeared throughout BART in 1978. For the first time since 1978, the original BART ART photographs will be exhibited at Flying Saucers Art and Caffeine Gallery from March 5 – 31, 2010.

The environmental performance art piece was billed as a “commuter computer satire.” JonAeon began the futuristic excursions in San Francisco’s Hallidie Plaza. With robotic moves of a mime, SL7, the Silver Android, attracted the attention and willing participation of the adventuresome. The entourage of performer and public entered BART at Powell Street Station, boarded Bart trains, and disembarked at Embarcadero Station, the terminus of the journey. There in a high tech gallery like setting, the BART ART photos were displayed along side video monitors with immediate video playback of the interactive performance art experience. This was the first environmental performance art of its kind in BART.

Though over 30 years old, the highly graphic stylization of the BART ART photographs appear timeless. A striking juxtaposition is offered with the vintage black and white film photography and its counterpoint; the striking palette of colors captured in his contemporary digital imagery. In his latest work, JonAeon explores the awareness of expanded space within time. By extending the shutter’s exposure, the perception of spaciousness is enhanced, thus revealing within the morphing of faces, visions of the Aliens Among Us.

Gallery hours are Monday-Sunday, 9am-5pm.
