Kelly Eye Center Continues to Pioneer Cataract Surgery by Offering the First Aberration-free Accommodating IOL Designed to Improve Near Vision

Raleigh, NC, March 06, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Kelly Eye Center, the Triangle’s leader in cataract surgery, is pleased to offer patients Crystalens® AO Intraocular Lens (IOL). The updated Aspheric Optic (AO) lens procedure was approved by the FDA in late 2009.

Crystalens AO is designed to be free of spherical aberration, light is focused correctly and patients experience enhanced contrast sensitivity. This is particularly important in low-light or nighttime conditions.

Standard cataract replacement lenses remain fixed and stationary within the eye, while Crystalens AO moves and changes shape using the eye's natural focusing ability. This movement, or accommodation, allows the eye to focus on objects near, far and everywhere in between. Most patients rarely, if ever, need glasses again.

“Crystalens AO is a breakthrough development in cataract surgery,” said Dr. Michael Kelly, medical director of Kelly Eye Center. “The surgical process is the same as with a standard IOL , but we are now able to not only restore patients’ vision, but enhance it dramatically.”

As an added benefit to patients, the cataract surgery is performed in a non-hospital setting. In July 2009, Dr. Kelly was welcomed by the Surgical Care Affiliates (SCA) as their partner choice for providing ophthalmology services at their Blue Ridge Surgery Center in Raleigh. This not only makes the experience more convenient for patients, but also less time consuming and less costly.
