Stanley Gibbons Secure the Future of Frank Godden

London, United Kingdom, March 11, 2010 --(PR.com)-- As part of the buyout of Frank Godden at the end of 2009, Stanley Gibbons has undertaken an extensive project to source suppliers and manufacturers of the highest quality in order to bring the luxury album producer’s products back to the market.

Low levels of quality paper stocks used by both Frank Godden and Stanley Gibbons threatened the future of several albums produced by the companies. So in 2008, Stanley Gibbons Production Manager, Jon Rayson, undertook a project to source the suppliers and manufacturers necessary to rescue these albums from being consigned to history.

Following discussions with a range of high quality craftsmen able to produce materials to the required specification, Stanley Gibbons assembled a small group of companies with the requisite skills to bring the most coveted items from the Frank Godden range back to market.

Specialist binder manufacturer, Mr W. Davenport said "the unique specialist paper used in the production of the Frank Godden range is designed specifically for the job. The pages are produced by hand by a highly skilled workforce with over 25 years’ experience.

"It takes hours of concentration and precision craftsmanship to produce these pages as the processes involved are numerous, including printing, die cutting, numerous hand gluing operations, final trim and the specialist application of gold leaf where appropriate."

Once the pages have been produced by Mr Davenport, the De Luxe range is transported to a specialist gilder for finishing. Each of the pages is sanded by hand before the application of Kurz Gold Foil.

Gilder, Mr Holroyd said, "Kurz Gold foil is the perfect material to recreate the Frank Godden range as it’s the thickest and purest we can use for the job. Although there are cheaper options available, Kurz has been our material of choice for over 30 years."

Bringing the albums back to the market after an absence of 5 years, has been a labour of love for the world famous stamp dealer, who previously limited their Frank Godden offering to leaves and protectors before completing the team of experts able to bring the Frank Godden De Luxe and Warwick albums back to life.

Stanley Gibbons’ Production Manager, Jon Rayson said "We have an ongoing commitment to quality craftsmanship and producing items of such superior quality is never quick or simple."

"We wanted to ensure that the products we brought to market were of the quality expected by Frank Godden customers - We had a lot to live up to."

Stanley Gibbons now offer both the De Luxe and Warwick albums, along with a selection of leaves, exhibition protectors and two sizes of exhibition case, all of which are available from their mail order department (UK Freephone 0800 611622, International: +44 1425 472363 or email sales@stanleygibbons.co.uk)
