Langhorne, PA, March 11, 2010 --(PR.com)-- On April 20, 2010, Dr. Linda Toche-Manley, vice president of Polaris Health Directions, and Barbara Dunn, manager of innovation and outcomes with Magellan, will present the results of a five-year quality improvement project that examined the outcomes of various service mixes for youth enrolled in behavioral health rehabilitative services (BHRS) in the suburban Philadelphia counties of Bucks, Delaware and Montgomery.

Their presentation, “Efficient and Effective: Getting a Service Mix to Youth and Families that Makes a Difference!,” emphasizes the need to use clinical data to aid in and improve decisions for treatment planning. As a result of this work, a predictive algorithm was designed using an enhanced version of Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) that helps counties better match services to the clinical needs of youth and provides continuous feedback to caseworkers. Results show that when the algorithm is applied, counties can expect a 30 percent to 50 percent improvement in outcomes. It also appears that for many youth, this rate of anticipated improvement would cost the same or less than the previously prescribed service mix.

This is the sixth annual CANS conference; it will focus on “Producing Outcomes, Encouraging Best Practices and Building Families.”
