Texas Iron & Metal Supports Local Special Olympics Division

Texas Iron & Metal, a Houston steel and pipe provider, recently became a supporter of the Special Olympics Humble/Kingwood Mustangs Equestrian Team division.

Houston, TX, March 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Texas Iron & Metal, a Houston steel and pipe provider, recently became a supporter of the Special Olympics Humble/Kingwood Mustangs Equestrian Team division.

Texas Iron & Metal’s General Manager, Greg Valk, has participated in the team’s practices and recently motivated Texas Iron & Metal President, Max Reichenthal to have the company support the team due to the respect and admiration he has for the organization and its principles.

“It really is a great organization. The coaches are committed to the athletes and want to see them succeed,” says Valk. Valk initially became exposed to this equestrian Special Olympics team from his involvement with The Commons Equestrian Association where he holds a chair position.

The Assistant Coach of the team, Susan Bulick, encourages the athletes to engage themselves in the entire equine experience by taking on responsibilities such as grooming, feeding and barn cleaning during practices. “Their goals are achieved with the help from dedicated parents and experienced riders from The Commons Equestrian Association who generously donates their time and horses,” says Bulick.

The Special Olympics is an international organization that changes lives by encouraging and empowering people with intellectual disabilities, promoting acceptance for all, and fostering communities of understanding and respect worldwide. Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the Special Olympics movement has grown from a few hundred athletes to more than 3.1 million athletes in over 170 countries in all regions of the world, providing year-round sports training, athletic competition and other related programs. The Humble/Kingwood Mustangs Equestrian Team has a total of 14 athletes that range in age from 14 to 35 and hail from the local areas of Humble, Kingwood, Huffman and Atascocita.
