Holiday Star Theater, a Park Forest, Ill., movie theater, is offering five $2,500 scholarships for high school seniors and current college students who plan to or are currently majoring in film production, theater management, performing arts or related field at a local Chicago-area college or university.

Park Forest, IL, March 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Holiday Star Theater is offering five $2,500 scholarships for students who plan to or are currently majoring in film production, theater management, performing arts or related field at a local Chicago-area college or university.

The Holiday Star Theater Scholarship was designed to encourage local area students to pursue these courses of study. The newly created scholarship program is open to graduating high school seniors and current college students who reside in the Chicagoland area, with preference given to residents of Park Forest and its surrounding communities. Applicants will be evaluated based on a variety of factors including GPA, level of community involvement and other outstanding factors.

"Holiday Star Theater has been an integral part of the community for more than 60 years," said Kenny Yochelson, who became owner of the theater earlier this year. "We established this scholarship program to help encourage local area students to pursue an education focused on the arts and media industry from one of Chicago’s outstanding colleges."

To apply, applicants must provide a written essay highlighting their reasons to pursue an education in arts and/or media, current community involvement, past achievements and career aspirations. Applicants must also respond to the following questions:

* What is your favorite movie and why?
* Why are independent movie theaters important to local communities and how can they further assist their respective community?

The application form, written essay and any supporting materials including videos, photos and recommendations, must be submitted by May 17, 2010, for the Fall 2010 semester. Submissions will be evaluated by Holiday Star Theater representatives, and the winners announced in June.

"This program is another way in which we are working with the local community to develop future talent for the growing arts and media industry here in Chicago," said Yochelson. "We hope this program will help us generate more interest in the arts and develop tomorrow's industry leaders."

Information about the program has been sent to high school and colleges across the Chicagoland area. Additional information and the application form can be downloaded online via http://www.theholidaystartheater.net/scholarship.pdf. Email questions to scholarship@theholidaystartheater.net.
