Haitian Voice Portal Startup Company Offers Free Service to Assist Earthquake Victims

A new way for Haitian to find information; Dixivox, a startup company in Port-au-Prince, Haiti has offered a free Voice Portal service that provides information to callers based on location and category of service.

Miami, FL, March 17, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Minutes after the 7.0 earthquake in Haiti, phones lines and network infrastructures collapsed leaving families with uncertainties about the fate of their loved ones.

“Dixivox”, a Haitian startup company based in Port-au-Prince, specializes in information technology services and voice portal technology quickly reacted to the issue that left thousands of people without information for days. With the sponsoring of I6Net, Acapella, Verbio, Atilus, Cepstral, JPBoisConsulting, “Dixivox” launched a free service called “Rele Anmwe,” meaning Call for Help. Individuals can call 3701-4111 from Haiti and the system will provide the information for distribution relief points in affected areas by location and category.

Basically, someone can call from the US and ask to find medical help in an area and will get all the medical facilities operating in that specific area.

“Rele Anmwe” is to primarily help Haitians in Haiti but also their relatives abroad as well as aid workers to easily locate shelters, police stations, tent and food distribution locations, etc. “Rele Anmwe's” service is free of charge and it operates in French and Haitian Creole.

“Dixivox's” idea to create voice portal services to help Haiti came from the fact that a large portion of the population is unable to read. So, providing information to them using computers and news papers may not be as efficient. Voice portal will be more effective, providing them information in voice in their native languages.

“It is not difficult to build voice contents, specifically in rural areas. So, voice portal can grow to be the preferred content delivery platform for rural population in Haiti,” said Harry Casimir, Project Director for “Rele Anmwe” and Director of Operations for Atilus Corporation in Fort Myers, Florida.
