Epoch Homes Featured in New Book on Cutting Edge Green Prefab Homes

Epoch Homes, a leading New England based manufacturer of award winning, fully custom sustainable green homes, has two of their beautiful modular homes featured in the new book by author Sheri Koones showing some of the best Green Prefab homes in the country.

Pembroke, NH, March 17, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Epoch Homes is honored to be recognized as an industry leader by Sheri Koones in her new book titled Prefabulous+ Sustainable, published by Abrams Books. The book details some of the best prefab green homes in the country, categorizing the homes as Green, Greener, and Greenest. The Powerhouse and The Mountain Home, two out of the eight Greenest homes in the book, were built by Epoch Homes at their factory in New Hampshire.

Epoch Homes’ CEO, John Ela, said that “after we started off the year by receiving the NAHB 2010 national award for the Best Green Modular Design, it is especially rewarding to now have two of our homes included in Sheri’s wonderful new book.” He continued that “being associated with the work Sheri is doing to educate the world on the advances of our industry, from custom designs to Green Building, is a great recognition for the creative efforts of our employees and Independent Builder network.”

The Powerhouse, certified as LEED for Homes Platinum, was built by Epoch with Powerhouse Enterprises, Inc and NJZ Builders in Lawrence, MA. This city in-fill project was designed to be both Green and affordable. Quincy Vale, President of Powerhouse, said, “A house cannot be very green unless it is modular or some type of prefab.” He went on to explain that those “systems reduce waste and lead to much higher quality control.” The book explains how the Powerhouse model set an example and opened the door to moderately priced Green construction.

The Mountain House is a model home in Plymouth, NH that Epoch built with Abode Builders. The natural cedar and forest green trimmed home is certified both LEED for Homes Platinum, and Build Green NH Gold. It is also certified Energy Star 5 Plus. To achieve this high level of energy efficiency, Epoch utilized its High Performance wall system, combining wood and rigid foam strapping with factory installed Icynene spray foam insulation to increase the R-Value, reduce air movement and drastically reduces thermal bridging.

Prefabulous+ Sustainable, covers homes built with various building systems such as modular, panelized, timber frame, and log homes. Sheri profiles the different building systems, describing their advantages, strategies, and materials used to create energy efficient and sustainable homes. The book explains the green advantages of systems built technology and why it is a preferred methodology for Green Building. A liberal use of photographs, captions, floor plans, and sidebars help the reader to understand green living and the ways to approach it. She also includes a resource guide making this book a must-have for anyone considering building a new home. The Foreword, by Actor and Environmentalist, Robert Redford, says the book “will inspire you to consider more environmentally friendly options and show you how to create homes that will bring balance to your future.”

This is author Sheri Koones’ third book on factory built homes. Her first book, Modular Mansions, helped to change people’s perspective on modular homes by showing how far the technology has come, from its origins in cookie cutter homes to today’s fully custom designed and upscale modular homes. That first book included six Epoch homes.
