Designated as Ventura County Landmark No. 80, the inn also is recognized on the official registry of Historic Hotels of America. Home to generations of guests, it will celebrate 100 years since its founding in September 2010.

Ventura, CA, March 25, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Celebrating 100 years in September, 2010, this rare arts and crafts inn is the one of the oldest operating hotels in California.

The Pierpont Inn & Spa enjoys a fairytale setting, stretched on a bluff overlooking the sweeping Pacific Ocean with visions of the horizon just beyond reach.

Designated as Ventura County Landmark No. 80, the inn also is recognized on the official registry of Historic Hotels of America. Home to generations of guests, it will celebrate 100 years since its founding in September 2010.

“The Pierpont Inn & Spa is an amazing treasure and we have worked very hard to preserve its rich heritage,” said Miller Vargas, general manager of the Pierpont Inn & Spa. “We are living history here every day and are thrilled to serve as caretakers of this lovely inn and to celebrate its 100 years with the community.”

Commissioned by the City of Ventura, the Pierpont Inn & Spa was built in 1910 by Josephine Pierpont-Ginn of Ojai and designed by famed architect Sumner P. Hunt, who also planned The Southwest Museum, Los Angeles County Club, Raymond Hotel in Pasadena and Lummis Adobe home in East Los Angeles.

Soon after opening its doors, The Pierpont immediately became a retreat (and refuge) for Hollywood celebrities. In the early days, the inn also became a “hide-out” for those involved in scandals, disappearing from the public eye until gossip had cooled down. At The Pierpont Inn & Spa, social elite and Hollywood royalty could depend on the staff’s hospitality and privacy, a tradition that remains today.

Actors Robert Mitchum, Kirk Douglas and Bob Hope stopped at the Inn during the 1940s but perhaps one of the most famous couples to have made this charming inn their home away from home is former President George H. Bush and his wife, former first lady Barbara Bush. With their children, including former President George W. Bush as a toddler, took up residence at one of the English cottages for several weeks in 1949 while senior Bush was an apprentice in the oil industry.

The historic inn has its place in history, serving the country during World War II. Transformed into a military bastion, searchlights were stationed in cypress trees and gunnery battalions were placed on the bluff below its foundations.
The Pierpont Inn & Spa has been lovingly restored over the years to bring the arts and crafts treasure back to its former glory and maintain the history and integrity of its past.

“Generations of families have shared their lives with the Pierpont Inn & Spa and we hope many future generations will come to cherish how special it is,” Vargas said.
