Photographer Shares Knowledge, Know-How with At-Risk School Children
Raleigh, NC, November 09, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Cara Galati of F8 Photo Studios in Raleigh recently volunteered to serve as an “IMAGES” speaker (“Inspire, Motivate, And Go Educate Students”) for Communities In Schools of Wake County to teach at-risk students how they could become professional photographers and what the work entails.

Communities In Schools of Wake County (CISWC) connects students with community resources and educational opportunities to help them succeed in school and in life. According to CISWC, the outreach program “believes that every at-risk student in the Wake County Public School system should have the opportunity to connect with a caring adult, the opportunity to learn, the opportunity to graduate, and the opportunity to learn to give back to their community.” To that end, the organization consistently recruits and trains volunteers from local businesses, government agencies, houses of worship, and civic organizations.

When Galati was asked to become an IMAGE speaker, she agreed immediately. “I love speaking to young people,” she said. “Ever since high school, I have volunteered with kids in an effort to be a positive role model. I am so grateful to have this opportunity.”

CISWC works with 13 selected Wake County public school sites and five public housing communities’ after-school learning centers, and serves nearly 1000 at-risk students grades K-12. Homework tutorial assistance, supplemental academic programs, and other community resources are made available to students who might not otherwise have them.

“I think that it will benefit the kids to see a young female entrepreneur making a good living doing something that she loves,” Galati noted. “Hopefully my success will press upon them that there is world of options out there if they have the vision to make it happen.”
