Seminal Films Sets Release Date for Sundance Grand Jury Nominated Documentary

211: Anna is a documentary about Russian journalist and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya who was murdered in 2006 for her stark coverage on the Russian government’s brutality toward its own people. It will be released by Seminal Films on April 6, 2010.

Los Angeles, CA, March 27, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Seminal Films is pleased to announce the release of 211: Anna, an Italian documentary about a Russian journalist who risked her life to report the truth about the Chechen conflict and President Vladimir Putin.

Russia is the second-most-dangerous country in the world for journalists, after Iraq. The Russian Union of Journalists has recorded the names of its members killed in Russia since 1991. Anna Politkovskaya was number 211. Her assassination in 2006 was stunning in its simplicity: she was shot point blank in her apartment building in Moscow. Her murderer has never been identified, and it is widely assumed that her continuing coverage of the Russian government’s brutality toward its own people, particularly in Chechnya, resulted in her death.

211: Anna weaves a story of modern Russia and a woman who passionately believed that the untold stories of everyday people were an unheralded history. In the end, her stark coverage brought death to her doorstep. Combining interviews with her husband of many years, Russian TV anchor Alexander Politkovski, her children, and her newspaper colleagues with the writings of Politovskaya herself, this documentary creates an impressionistic portrait of a woman, a nation, and a people under siege.

211: Anna is directed by Paolo Serbandini and Giovanna Massimetti, produced by Rai Tre Radiotelevisione Italiana and Stefano Alpini, and Executive Produced by Rui Da Silva and Mathius Mack Gertz of Seminal Films. The film was nominated for Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. 211: Anna has a release date of April 6, 2010.
