Moots to be Presenting Sponsor of 2010 Steamboat Springs Stage Race

Four-day road stage race returns for Labor Day weekend.

Steamboat Springs, CO, March 28, 2010 --( Moots Cycles announced it will once again be presenting sponsor of the second annual Steamboat Springs Stage Race to be held in Steamboat Springs, CO over the Labor Day Holiday weekend, September 3 - 6, 2010. Moots will also remain title sponsor of the Sunday road race stage.

Additionally, Moots will award a custom road frame to the event’s grand prize raffle winner. All athletes who start the individual time trial are automatically entered to win the frame. Professional and amateur categories will compete for a G.C. cash purse plus additional merchandise.

The Steamboat Springs Stage Race, presented by Moots, is one of twelve road stage races profiled in VeloNews’ Road & Race Guide. Sanctioned by the American Cycling Association, the four-day stage race includes an individual time trial, circuit race, Moots road race, and finishes with a downtown criterium.

Following Sunday’s Moots road race stage, competitors and their families are invited to gather at the Moots factory for an open house, BBQ dinner, road race stage awards, and the raffle drawing for the custom Moots road frame and other prizes. Thirteen year old Gregory Daniel, a Category 3 racer from Englewood, CO, who finished fifteen in the G.C., was last year’s lucky winner of a Vamoots frame.

"We're excited to bring road racing back to Steamboat for a second consecutive year", said Rob Mitchell, president of Moots "It's a wonderful opportunity to host the race participants and their families in our backyard. The best part is they get to meet the great Moots team who all work so hard to help put on such an awesome event. It's really special."

More than 300 competitors took part in the inaugural 2009 Steamboat Springs Stage Race including National Champion, two-time Olympian, World Cup Overall, and World Champion Alison Dunlap (LUNA). Benjamin Day of Fly V Australia (Boulder, CO) and Marilyn McDonald of Specialized/Bicyclehaus (Boulder, CO) finished first in the overall G.C. The support of more than 60 volunteers and a dozen local sponsors helped bring road racing back to the streets of Steamboat Springs and roads of Routt County for the first time in nearly 20 years.

“Building on the quality and success of the 2009 stage race, we’re confident to register 400 participants including more out-of-state racers and complete cycling teams”, said Corey Piscopo, race promoter and Moots sales associate. “Our focus is to grow the event while maintaining a fun, safe, and competitive field.”

The 2009 Steamboat Springs Stage Race donated proceeds totaling $7500.00 to the following local organizations: Routt County Riders, Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Cycling, and the Yampa Valley Community Foundation. A similar locally focused advocacy program is planned for 2010. Beneficiaries will be identified in the coming months.

Sponsorship opportunities are currently available. Organizers are also looking for volunteer course marshals, EMTs and drivers for support vehicles. For more information on the 2010 Steamboat Springs Stage Race visit:, or call 603.969.9269.
