Fishkill Karate - Beacon Martial Arts School to Spend April Working on Manners with Their Students

Local Karate School - Just For Kicks Martial Arts - Serves Fishkill, Beacon, Cold Spring - Will be focusing on teaching their students manners for the entire month of April.

Fishkill, NY, March 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Just For Kicks Martial Arts is considered to be the Hudson Valley's leader in character education and life skills. This month their Staff child psychologist Dr. Robyn Silverman has decided that the school will be spending the entire month working on manners with its' students.

A recent 2009 online poll of 1000 mothers showed a renewed interest in manners. In fact, 81% of mothers said that manners are more important than ever, specifically; 39% said treating adults with respect was of most importance, followed by saying please and thank you (29%) and then, treating other children with respect (19%). Parents feel that manners can ground children in a world that seems "freewheeling" (Babycenter.com).

When asked why this month would be spent on the character concept, “manners” Master Robert Blum stated, "It is vitally important that our students understand just how people see someone who has great manners. People who use polite words and behave with other people in mind tend to make others feel comfortable and valued. As a character-based academy, we are focusing more on being aware of other people’s feelings. Our aim is to help children understand what manners are and how to use them. We will be encouraging them to actively engage their manners at home, in school, and out in the community."

Just For Kicks serves the Fishkill, Beacon, Newburgh, Cold Spring, Wappingers Falls & Hopewell Junction area of the Hudson Valley.
