Leadership Triangle Announces March Regional Class on Government Connection

Durham, NC, April 01, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The board of directors of Leadership Triangle (www.leadershiptriangle.com), has announced that the organization’s regional class on March 31 will focus on a timely topic: balancing the state’s approximately $20 billion budget.

The class is part of the Government Connection program presented by Fidelity Investments and will connect participants from Orange, Chatham, Durham and Wake Counties with legislative leaders in an opportunity to learn about and share ideas on balancing the state budget.

Featured speakers include North Carolina Treasurer Janet Cowell, House Speaker Joe Hackney, and Senator Floyd McKissick of Durham. WUNC statehouse reporter and political blogger Laura Leslie will offer the perspective on the media’s role in the legislative process. A hands-on budget exercise, utilizing actual figures from the state’s budget, will be facilitated by Tom Covington, former General Assembly director of fiscal research.

“With the state facing an estimated $4.6 billion budget shortfall, there is no better time to expose regional leaders to the challenges our elected officials face when leading us difficult economic times,” said Leadership Triangle executive director, Winkie LaForce. “We’re teaming up with legislative experts to provide our regional class participants with an insider’s view of the state’s budget cycles and how fiscal decisions are made. When this class is over, participants will literally be able to put their money where their mouth is when speaking about the state budget and its impact on regional issues.”
