Reef Safe SunCare Team and Boat to be Unveiled at Silver King Kickoff of Pro Tarpon Season

Event at Bass Pro Shops will feature world’s first biodegradable sunscreens

Fort Myers, FL, April 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Tarpon fishing fans will get their first look at the new Reef Safe competition boat and Captain Nick Winger at the Silver King Kickoff event at Bass Pro Shops here during the April 17-18 weekend. The event is a prelude to the 2010 Miller High Life® Professional Tarpon Tournament Series (PTTS) season.

Event attendees will also be treated to interactive seminars, fishing tips from the pros, celebrity appearances, art displays and product giveaways from event sponsors, including Reef Safe™ SunCare by Beach Buff® (www.reefsafesuncare.com), the only product on the market that can scientifically substantiate a “reef safe” or “freshwater safe” claim. Free Reef Safe SPF-30 samples will be distributed throughout the weekend, and the new Reef Safe Earth Day Birthday T-shirts will also be unveiled.

“We’re pulling out all the stops at the Silver King Kickoff,” said Dan Knorr, CEO and President of Tropical Seas (www.tropicalseas.com), which introduced the Reef Safe SunCare line in 2009. “We’re excited to give the public their first look at the new Reef Safe Team and Boat, and can’t wait to show off our products to people who appreciate the importance of protecting our oceans while protecting our skin.”

Knorr also announced that, just in time for the PTTS season, independent testing has proven that Reef Safe SunCare is also “bait safe,” meaning the sunscreen won’t kill live bait. “Just one more reason why Reef Safe should be carried on every boat in the ocean, whether you’re fishing, surfing, diving or just enjoying a day in the sun,” said Knorr.

“Our partnership with Reef Safe is already off to a terrific start,” said Joe Mercurio, host of the PTTS television series (www.PTTS.tv). “They’ve selected an awesome team, captained by Nick Winger, and they’re fully integrating with us not only on the television broadcasts, but in our major events, like Silver King. We’ve been using the Reef Safe products for several weeks now, and I’ve got to say, this stuff is outstanding!”

In addition to the free samples, Silver King attendees will receive one free bottle for every two bottles of Reef Safe SunCare purchased at the event. Daily drawings for additional prizes will also be held throughout the weekend.

Reef Safe by Beach Buff has been designated the exclusive and official sun care products of the 2010 PTTS and WPTTS events. The televised PTTS is the largest and richest live release Tarpon tournament series in the world, featuring five regular series events and one championship event. The three-event WPTTS is the largest women’s fishing series in the United States.

During each episode of the PTTS television series, hosts Joe Mercurio and Sheli Sanders will take a "Re-Apply Timeout" as the show goes to commercial break.

"We hope that taking time to re-apply our Reef Safe sunscreen during the shows will remind anglers and beachgoers to do the same the next time they're out in the sun," said Mercurio.

The PTTS is filmed and broadcast on the Sun Sports Network. The 13-week series will begin airing July 1. 2010 PTTS and WPTTS qualifying events will be held throughout May and June in Boca Grande, Fla.

About Reef Safe SunCare
Reef Safe SunCare by Beach Buff, manufactured and distributed by Ormond Beach, Fla-based Tropical Seas, Inc., addresses well-documented concerns about the damage done to coral reefs and marine life by the 4,000 to 6,000 metric tons of toxic sunscreens estimated to wash off swimmers into the oceans every year. By some estimates, this has led to sunscreen-induced bleaching of up to 10 percent of the world’s coral reefs. The Reef Safe sunscreens were subjected to a comprehensive series of independent laboratory tests to support and authenticate the biodegradability of the lotions. The research found that 99 percent of the material biodegraded in seawater within 60-80 days, while no evidence of toxicity to micro-organisms and other sea life was detected. The research also found that Beach Buff’s waterproof formula allows less than three percent of the product to come off in the ocean, which compares favorably to mass market brands that lose up to 29 percent of the product immediately upon entering the water. The American Lifeguard Association, which represents more than 10,000 active lifeguards across North America, has officially endorsed the Reef Safe product line.
