Tectonix Steel : Steel Fabricators in Southern Utah and Las Vegas Help Each Other Survive While the Steel Industry is Struggling

Mesa, AZ, April 11, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Tectonix Steel recently sent their sales manager to southern Utah to develop relationships with steel fabrication companies in that region. He drove 1,000 miles and visited 10 steel fabricators in 2 days. These steel fabricators were all located between Cedar City Utah and Las Vegas Nevada.

Although there are differences in the different business styles between southern Utah and Las Vegas there is common ground as well. The steel industry in this region has slowed down from last year with nearly everyone. Structural and miscellaneous steel production in some cases is 25% of what it was last year at this time. Building has obviously slowed and steel fabricators are finding different ways to survive.

The good news is that all of the steel fabricators in southern Utah and Las Vegas that were there a year ago are still in business this year. The sales/marketing manager of Tectonix Steel, Ken Roberts says, “In talking with Steel Fabricators in the southern Utah, Las Vegas Region, I noticed that there is an implied loyalty of employers to employees. These Steel Fabricators are finding more efficient ways of running business, but not at the cost of their employees.” The steel fabricators that have their own detailing departments have moved most or all of their steel detailing in house, instead of laying employees off and subcontracting all of the steel detailing out at a lower cost.

Roberts also says, “Some of the fabricators are joining together to pass business back and forth. If ABC fabricator has a strong ‘structural’ background and DEF company has a strong ‘miscellaneous’ background, DEF Company will refer the structural work to ABC Company, and in turn ABC Company will refer the miscellaneous work over to DEF Company. It’s refreshing to see competitors helping each other out like this.”
