Central Scholarship Bureau Receives Major Gift to Create Endowed Scholarship: Former Board President Leaves Funding to CSB in Her Estate

Baltimore, MD, April 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Central Scholarship Bureau (CSB) is honored to receive a very generous contribution from the estate of Catharine (Kitty) and Isaac Hecht. Kitty, a former board president and longtime friend of Central Scholarship, passed away in July of 2009. This bequest will create the Isaac & Catharine S. Hecht Endowed Scholarship Fund which will provide scholarships to students in Maryland.

Born in 1915, Kitty was dedicated to many educational causes, but had a special fondness for the mission of CSB. During her time as Board President, from 1968-1970, CSB funded more than 100 students. Understanding that education is a key to financial stability, Kitty and Isaac gave generously to CSB with the hope that students helped would become contributing members of society. For the past 35 years, the fund has helped students achieve their educational dreams without having to take on enormous and crippling debt. In a speech at the end of Kitty's two-year term as President of CSB in May 1970, she said, "I am addicted to Central Scholarship Bureau - its work and ideals."

“This extraordinary gift is evidence of Kitty and Isaac’s commitment to education as a pathway out of poverty. The financial meltdown in 2008 has put higher education out of reach for many low-income students. This bequest will provide access to college for many deserving students who would otherwise be excluded from participating,” stated Jan Wagner, President of Central Scholarship Bureau.

CSB is currently accepting applications through May 1st. For more information on this fund or any other scholarship funds, please visit CEntral Scholarship Bureau's website.
