Bellevue, WA, April 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- April is Autism Awareness Month, so an appropriate time to consider how to create successful learning environments for all children. “Many of our parent coaches from The Parent Coaching Institute work with families who have children with special needs. These families are thirsty for knowledge to help them understand the complicated interplay between genetics, brain development, and a child’s experiences and environment,” says Gloria DeGaetano, founder of The Parent Coaching Institute (www.ThePCI.org), which is sponsoring the Jane Healy workshop. “Jane Healy does an amazing job explaining the interaction between nature and nurture, while providing take-away tools that really make a difference.”

Healy, who has just published a book called Different Learners: Identifying, Preventing, and Treating Your Child’s Learning Problems, has received international attention for her work, including media coverage on The Today Show, Nightline, Good Morning America, BBC, CNN, and NPR. She has worked with children of all ages from pre-school to graduate school. She is a graduate of Smith College, with a M.A. from John Carroll University, a Ph.D. in educational psychology from Case Western Reserve University, and post-doctoral work in developmental neuropsychology. She is an expert at helping teachers and parents understand the implications of current brain research on a child’s learning success.

The upcoming workshop is open to the public and designed specifically to give teachers, parents, special education professionals, gifted education specialists, school district administrators, parent educators, and child care providers proven, practical tools and strategies to put to use immediately in the classroom and at home to help children who are “different learners.” Teachers will be provided with practical information demonstrated to increase test scores. The cost is $139 per individual or $119 for two or more from the same school district or agency. Anyone who registers by April 26 qualifies for a free signed copy of Jane Healy’s new book. The workshop also provides educators with 3 Clock Hours/CEUs, available from Seattle Pacific University.
