Ambassador of Singapore Vanu Gopala Menon to Speak at Adelphi University

Adelphi University’s International Initiatives Committee will host a lecture by the Ambassador of Singapore Vanu Gopala Menon on Tuesday, April 27, 2010.

Garden City, NY, April 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Ambassador of Singapore Vanu Gopala Menon will speak at Adelphi University on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. in Alumni House, 154 Cambridge Avenue, Garden City, NY. The lecture, “The U.S. and Asia: A Perspective from a Little Red Dot-Singapore,” is free and open to the public.

Ambassador Menon currently serves as Singapore’s Permanent Representative of the United Nations in New York. Prior to assuming this position, he served as Singapore’s Permanent Representative of the United Nations in Geneva and the World Trade Center Organization, and was Singapore’s Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey (December 2001-August 2004).

Previous roles held by Ambassador Menon include minister counselor in the Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (November 1994-November 1997) and director at the Policy, Planning, and Analysis (December 1998-October 2001). He began his career as a Foreign Service officer in 1985.

Ambassador Menon obtained a master’s of science degree in international relations from London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London, United Kingdom and his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the National University of Singapore.

The International Initiatives Committee (IIC) is a campus-wide group of faculty, administrators, and students charged with infusing courses and campus events with internationalized content. The IIC allows the University to offer dynamic programs such as its acclaimed Ambassador Series in intimate settings so students, faculty, and the public have the opportunity to hear first-hand, global perspectives on issues of international concern.
