Bright Eyes Family Vision Care Celebrates "Baby Day" to Promote Infant Vision Care

Bright Eyes Family Vision Care celebrates “Baby Day” to promote infant vision care Babies receive eye care across the country on May 8, 2010.

Tampa, FL, April 26, 2010 --(PR.com)-- On Saturday, May 8, 2010, Bright Eyes Family Vision Care will celebrate its first “Baby Day.” The goal of Baby Day is to provide eye care for infants, as well as increase awareness of the link between vision and a child’s overall development. In addition to providing no-cost InfantSEE® eye exams, Bright Eyes Family Vision Care will be hosting a “Baby Tweetup” mixer for families with infants and toddlers. Local Westchase businesses such as Mi Bebe and My Gym are also participating.

“An InfantSEE® exam is designed for early detection of eye and vision problems in babies, but many parents don’t realize their children can be evaluated so young. My 6-month-old son’s upcoming InfantSEE® exam got me thinking about creating Baby Day for our office,” said Dr. Nathan Bonilla-Warford, owner of Bright Eyes Family Vision Care and specialist in children’s vision. “We’ve recruited doctors around the country to hold their own Baby Day and it exciting to know that babies from New York to California will be examined on this day.”

InfantSEE® is a public health initiative developed by the American Optometric Association (AOA) that provides no-cost eye and vision assessments for infants between the ages of 6 and 12 months. Clinical research has shown that at 6 months, the average baby has reached a number of critical developmental milestones, making this an appropriate age for the first eye and vision assessment. This coincides with the AOA and American Public Health Association recommendations for eye evaluations.

InfantSEE® exams complement a pediatrician’s routine vision screenings. However, InfantSEE® exams are more thorough than typical childhood vision screenings. Although infants cannot speak, optometrists have the clinical education, training and experience, as well as the instruments and procedures, to provide non-invasive eye exams for any non-verbal patients such as infants. More information and a video about infant eye exams are available at http://infantsee.org.
