Chicago, IL, April 28, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Renowned Brazilian jazz guitarist Paulinho Garcia is coming to Evanston’s Q2 (1625 Hinman Avenue) on Thursdays, May 6 and June 3, to perform as part of the jazz duet series Q2Nite. Considered by many to be an icon of the Chicago jazz scene, Garcia will be joined by guitarist Mike Allemana for two sets on each night, which begin at 7:30 and 8:45 p.m. Located across the hall from Quince at the Homestead, Q2 offers a live jazz performance series in a cozy, intimate space on the first and third Thursdays of the month. Admission is free.

Paulinho Garcia arrived in Chicago on May 1, 1979, and over the past 30 years has developed a stellar reputation as one of the finest contemporary jazz musicians performing today. Garcia performs and records as a solo musician, with his group Jazzmineiro, and with three well-known duos: Two for Brazil with Greg Fishman; Dois no Choro with Julie Koidin; and Paulinho Garcia-Grazyna Auguscik duo. The Brazilian artist tours world-wide and has performed in renowned theatres, jazz festivals, and clubs in Asia, Europe, and America. With Greg Fishman, Paulinho was the winner of the 2001 best jazz entertainer given by the Chicago Music Awards. He currently teaches Brazilian guitar and vocals at Old Town School of Folk Music and coaches a Brazilian combo at Roosevelt University.

Q2Nite is under the musical direction of Emmy Award-winning musician Steve Rashid, who has created a live performance series of intimate jazz duets featuring some of Chicago’s top jazz musicians. Guitarist John Moulder and bassist Kelly Sills perform on Thursday, May 20, and jazz mandolin artist Don Stiernberg pairs up with guitarist Andy Brown on June 10.

Q2 offers a unique opportunity for musicians and guests alike. The cozy lounge seats up to 30 people, which allows for an intimate concert experience. When developing the concept for Q2Nite, Steve Rashid realized immediately that the Q2 lounge was the perfect setting for duets.

“The duet is among the most intimate of musical experiences,” states Rashid. “Q2 is such a warm, cozy space that it seemed the perfect venue to showcase this series of unique musical conversations by some of Chicago’s finest musicians.”
