Trifecta Gallery Hosts Philip Denker's Drawings of NewData/ataDweN

Philip Denker is not a mathematician, but his drawings, done by hand, might make you think he is geeked out on math and science and wouldn’t have the patience to draw. Denker is normal and approachable.

Las Vegas, NV, April 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Philip Denker's first solo show in Las Vegas is in Trifecta Gallery May 6-28,2010. He arrived in Las Vegas by way of the Kansas City Art Institute immediately setting up studio space diligently and happily working away. When he came up for air, Trifecta was there to have a look at these fascinating drawings. "I had to take a Lupe to the drawings because I didn't believe they were hand drawn. I am such a fan of tedious quality. Most of our artists have this overlying element," the gallery's owner, Marty Walsh says. To begin a drawing he tries to resolve his own fundamental questions of design, form and function within the subjective parameters he sets for himself in an algorithmic program. His favored organic forms are turned into compositions of micro/macroscopic proportions that seem only a digital printer could accomplish. Mathematical patterns and configurations are altered from their equations and used to reform shapes to the final design. In the studio, they are then drawn by hand with only a pencil layout and a marker. A viewer of these drawings will be completely compelled to take a close look at the tenacious marks in this new series of hand drawn pieces entitled "Stretch Press and Hook."

Denker won third place in the Contemporary Arts Center's Annual Juried Show this April. The exhibition will remain up through May 26, 2010. Philip will give a brief talk about his work in the Contemporary Arts Center at the less crowded Thursday Preview of the First Friday new shows. He will be in Trifecta Gallery the remainder of the evening to answer any questions or take any comments you would like to give. Then stay for dinner in the new Arts Factory Bar + Bistro, now open for dinner five nights a week.
