Central Scholarship Receives $100,000 Gift to Aid Teachers in Maryland

Baltimore, MD, April 30, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Central Scholarship Bureau Receives $100,000 Gift to Aid Teachers in Maryland

Gift will be added to the $500,000 BHD Endowed Scholarship Fund for Teachers

Central Scholarship Bureau (CSB) is pleased to announce a pledge of $100,000 by David Dalsheimer to the BHD Endowed Scholarship Fund for Teacher Education in honor of his mother, Mrs. Babette H. Dalsheimer.

Established in 2004, this scholarship provides the financial resources necessary to assist qualified individuals who are interested in pursuing teaching careers in public schools. Candidates must have undergraduate degrees in the liberal arts, mathematics or sciences to qualify.

Mrs. Dalsheimer grew up in a major US city and is a product of the public school system. At that time, many of the urban public schools were among the best in the country. Mrs. Dalsheimer believes strongly that the future of the nation rests in large part on the strength of the public school system. David Dalsheimer says, “the evidence regarding the decline of US public school system is clear and compelling, and the lack of qualified teachers is at the root of the problem. I am thrilled to be able to contribute to this extraordinary cause in honor of an extraordinary woman.”

This scholarship enables talented young men and women to pursue this vocation without concern about the enormous debt that would ensue without financial support. By awarding funds to students with content expertise in the liberal arts, math or sciences, the program ensures that teachers are qualified in the academic disciplines that are most needed in our public schools. Since 2005, 20 students have been awarded scholarships.

One of these students, Lauren Scott, received a BHD Scholarship in 2009. On the importance of that funding, Lauren says, “I am extremely grateful for the scholarship I have received from the Central Scholarship Bureau. Had I not received a scholarship, I would not have been able to pursue my graduate studies.” Lauren is applying her love of science and physics in her classroom everyday as she teaches Baltimore students.

“Each year, we are increasingly impressed with the exceptional students that apply for our teacher scholarships. Every finalist has an inspirational story and a desire to do more for their community. With Mr. Dalsheimer’s generous gift to the BHD Endowed Scholarship Fund, we will be able to reach more students and have a greater impact, not just on their individual lives, but in the quality of teaching in our public school system,” says Jan Wagner, President of Central Scholarship.

CSB is currently accepting applications for this fund, as well as the many other scholarship funds at CSB. Applications will be accepted through May 10, 2010. For more information on this fund, or any others, please visit www.centralsb.org.
