Humanity First USA Sends a Team of Doctors and Medical Staff to Ghana

Team’s goal to train the local hospital staff with latest surgical techniques

Baltimore, MD, May 03, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Humanity First USA has recently dispatched a team of surgeons, surgical technicians, resident doctors, and students to Ghana for a 2 weeks trip. The mission of this team is to train and educate the surgical providers in the West African country of Ghana. Karen Cartwright, MD from Fresno, CA is leading this team of medical volunteers this year.

Humanity First has been sending similar teams for last several years now. It is one of the strategic initiatives that the organization is pursuing to bring health and medical services to countries such as Ghana. These missions not only include providing free surgical procedures for the needy patients in the region, but also focus on training the local staff on how to conduct these procedures and surgeries on their own for the rest of the year.

This year, the team includes 5 doctors, 1 surgical technologist, and 2 medical students. The team also includes a logistical coordinator from Humanity First USA operations team. In Ghana, they will be visiting Doboase as well as Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where they will be participating in 2 days of teaching pediatric laparoscopy cases.

These humanitarian services are provided by volunteer teams assembled and coordinated by Humanity First USA, and are supported through generous donors who support Humanity First programs, as well as through in-kind donations of medical equipment, supplies, and medicines of various healthcare providers and hospitals.
