Dowling Music Strikes a Chord in Manhattan

One year ago, New Yorkers were told to look for music elsewhere as Patelson Music bid its farewell. This week, Steinway Hall trumpets the sounds of Dowling Music, its first and only tenant and the most comprehensive sheet music store in Manhattan.

New York, NY, May 12, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Dowling Music will make its debut with a grand opening inside Steinway Hall on Saturday, May 22, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., bringing music to the eyes and ears of New Yorkers.

Nearly one year ago to the day, scores of New Yorkers were told to look for music elsewhere as the legendary Joseph Patelson Music House bid its final farewell. This week, Steinway Hall is trumpeting the sweet sounds of Dowling Music, its first and only tenant, and the newest and most comprehensive provider of sheet music in Manhattan.

"My whole life I've loved going to sheet music stores to browse and buy scores during my concert travels,” says concert pianist, Steinway Artist, and co-owner of Dowling Music, Richard Dowling. “There’s nothing quite like the thrill of digging through a collection and being able to see and touch scores of music for yourself. Like many musicians I’ve amassed quite a personal library. With the opening of Dowling Music musicians and music lovers in New York will have a new opportunity to see, feel and discover all of the wonderful music that’s available in print,” adds Dowling.

Dowling Music will fill its shelves with a comprehensive selection of sheet music including: Classical, Rock, Pop, Country, Broadway, Jazz, Guitar Tab, Sacred and Teaching Methods. Dowling will also carry uniquely attractive music-themed gifts that will strike a chord with casual and traditional shoppers alike.

“We want to make music accessible to everyone,” says James Li, President of Dowling Music. “We’re committed to creating a positive experience for our customers, so by design there will be no off-limits stockroom. We want visitors to come into our store and be able to see our entire collection for themselves,” adds Li.

Located on West 57th diagonally across the street from Carnegie Hall, for over 85 years Steinway Hall has been a landmark destination for the world’s greatest pianists, students, and enthusiasts. A testament to the beaux-arts tradition, those who know the rich history of Steinway are sure to be delighted that this registered New York City landmark is breaking new ground by opening its doors to Dowling Music.

“We are delighted to welcome Dowling Music to Steinway Hall, where they will fill a genuine need for our current and future customers,” stated Ron Losby, President of Steinway & Sons – Americas. “After interviewing several candidate companies in the printed music business, we chose Dowling as a result of their depth of knowledge, exemplary reputation and a relentless commitment to excellence in customer service – the same attributes which have distinguished Steinway & Sons for over 157 years.”

Adjacent to the store on the second floor, Dowling Music will host well-known pedagogues, editors and composers for workshops and demonstrations in the Henry Z. Steinway Room, a small recital space that can accommodate up to 75.
