South Carolina Department of Education Sees Success with Moodlerooms - Reports Improved Support, Usability and Satisfaction

Baltimore, MD, May 15, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Moodlerooms, Inc., trusted provider of managed open-source solutions wrapped around the world’s most widely used open-source learning management system, Moodle, has helped South Carolina Department of Education (SCDOE) increase success rates while decreasing its total cost of ownership by 35%.

Facing a budget crisis and the need for more flexibility, SCDOE, which previously used a proprietary LMS, decided to switch to open-source Moodle. However, after initially attempting to self-host and experiencing challenges with managing hardware, SCDOE turned to Moodlerooms for a supported solution with Moodle at the core.

"We had poor communication with our previous LMS and host, so we really needed a company to host our Moodle LMS that would help us and had a high level of communication," explains Bradley Mitchell, LMS Administrator in the SCDOE Office of eLearning. “By using Moodlerooms’ managed open-source solution, we have someone to provide support to us if we need it. If there is an error or something that we have difficulty correcting, we can simply open a support ticket with Moodlerooms and they will investigate and solve the issue for us. If we were self-hosting the application, we would be responsible for doing this on our own.”

Additionally, 93% of all participants in SCDOE’s professional development program, eLearningSC PD, said that they liked Moodlerooms’ solution better than their previous solution because of the ease of use and better layout. This in turn helped teachers better improve their skills and create better courses for their virtual school students.
