This Season’s Fashion for the Over 40s

Bradford, United Kingdom, May 17, 2010 --(PR.com)-- For many women in their 40s, choosing fashionable clothes can seem like a daunting task. Online fashion store Kaleidoscope has examined this season’s trends and styles to put together some stylish-yet-sophisticated outfit suggestions for ladies in their 40s.

Alexandra Wood-Ives, from the Online Marketing team at Kaleidoscope says: “Women in their forties will benefit from adding more structure into their wardrobes. They should invest in at least one blazer and a selection of tailored jackets for every occasion: a weekend jacket to wear with jeans and loafers; another one to go with skirts, and at least one formal jacket for evening events. This really is a very easy way to embellish an outfit and give it that sharp, sophisticated edge.”

Quality fabrics and an eye for detail are also important. This season, there is a wide selection of trousers with their pleats just-so, which can be combined with a crisp shirt in a good cotton mix to create a look that is fashionable, elegant and refined. A piece of classic jewellery and a smart handbag will put the finishing touch on this ensemble.

The jeans and a top ensemble has always been popular amongst Kaleidoscope consumers of all ages. The brand advises ladies in their 40s to choose fitted jeans and a well-made top in a good fabric. Skinny jeans, boot cut jeans and straight-legged jeans are all popular styles, and dark denim is very “in” this season.

To keep up with the trends, it’s best to pick out one or two pieces per season rather than replace the entire wardrobe. For example, this season bold prints are very chic: a new patterned scarf could be added to a favourite outfit along with a pair of gladiator sandals.

This season’s trends should be mixed and matched with structured pieces for an elegant take on fashion. This season’s flowing floral skirts contrast really well with smart jackets.
