New Mayor of Hailsham Elected

Councillor Robin Kempe was elected Mayor of Hailsham and Chairman for 2010/11 at the Town Council’s Annual Meeting on Monday 17th May.

Hailsham, United Kingdom, May 21, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Councillor Kempe was co-opted onto the Town Council in 2006 and elected in 2007, representing Hailsham Central & North Ward. He has served on a number of committees, including Burials & Properties (of which he was chairman from February to May 2010), Festivities and the Planning Consultative Panel.

A furniture designer and maker by profession, Councillor Kempe is married to Carolyn, who is also a Town Councillor. Carolyn will become Mayoress for Councillor Kempe’s term of office.

Handing over the role of Town Mayor to Councillor Kempe, the retiring Mayor, Councillor Dr Ian Haffenden said, "I wish Councillor Kempe every success in his new role as Mayor. Residents can rest assured that Hailsham is in very safe hands.”

Councillor Bryan Burchmore, who represents Hailsham South & West Ward, was elected as Deputy Mayor and Vice-Chairman, and will also take on the role of chairman of the Finance, Policy & Resources Committee. Councillor John Puttick was voted in as chairman of the Environment & Leisure Committee, and Councillor Paul Holbrook as chairman of the Burials & Properties Committee. Councillor Bill Crittenden takes over as chairman of the Planning Consultative Panel.
