SMC Looks to Build on DOCSIS 3.0 Success with CableLabs’ Certification of the SMCD3DGNV, 8x4 Voice Gateway

Irvine, CA, May 24, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The SMCD3GNV received PacketCable 1.5 and DOCSIS 3.0 Certifications from CableLabs’ Certification Wave 74. The SMCD3GNV is a highly advanced DOCSIS 3.0 Voice gateway based on 8x4 DOCSIS 3.0 technology that delivers voice, data and 802.11n wireless connectivity. The product incorporates the TI Puma V, Microtune 2170 wideband tuner and Maxlinear 242 narrowband tuners to achieve 8x4 channel bonding. Taking advantage of DOCSIS 3.0 technology, the gateway operates on up to 8 downstream and 4 upstream bonded channels supporting speeds of up to 300Mbps downstream and 120Mbps upstream.

“eMTA gateways have had limited North American deployments as DOCSIS 2.0 devices. In the DOCSIS 3.0 world, there is no question that advanced gateways, like the SMCD3GNV, will become the industry standard CPE. Residential customers are demanding advanced broadband services such as digital voice and advanced home networking requiring the robust feature set and throughput capacity,” says Todd Babic, Vice President of Sales, Broadband Business Development for SMC. “The SMCD3GNV certification is an important milestone, as it allows SMC to build on our DOCSIS data gateway success and provides a clear migration path for our valued MSO customers.”

Some key features of the SMCD3GNV include a Packet Cable 1.5 eMTA and an 802.11n interface that allows for VoIP phone service, whole home distribution of digital content, easy networking of computers, external hard drives, and gaming consoles. Other key features include compatibility with DOCSIS 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0, 4 Gigabit Ethernet Ports that ensure maximum speed is delivered to the customer’s premise, and a wideband N Wireless WiFi radio offering speeds of up to 450Mbps. Also, the SMCD3GNV features easy installation by GUI, CLI, SNMP, TLV43/DOCSIS Config File or a downloadable configuration file to make it very easy and inexpensive to deploy the device in field with customers and reduces the installation time and labor costs. The SMCD3GNV also features sophisticated Quality of Service (QoS) software that eliminates network congestion that is common from bandwidth-intensive applications like VOIP, IPTV, and online gaming. Advanced capabilities for remote management reduce cost of support for our MSO customers while allowing them to easily deploy updates. Enhancements for media and content sharing around the home will drive the usefulness of the device into many aspects of the digital lifestyle. The SMCD3GNV was designed with these features to enable easy deployment to residential customers who have varied needs for network customization.

The SMCD3GNV is now available for cable operators to test and deploy in field. Please contact SMC at 1-800-SMC-4YOU / 1-800-762-4968 to learn more about the SMCD3GNV and our leading DOCSIS 3.0 products.
