NPSA Warns Members About 2010 CVSA Roadcheck

The National Portable Storage Association is warning its members about the 2010 Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's annual compliance initiative.

Kansas city, MO, May 31, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The National Portable Storage Association (NPSA), a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry, is warning its members of the 2010 annual Roadcheck.

Roadcheck is one of a series of activities that occur year round whereby Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance-certified (CVSA) inspectors conduct compliance, enforcement and educational initiatives targeted at various elements of motor carrier, vehicle, driver and cargo safety and security. This year's Roadcheck will take place June 8-10, 2010.

Roadcheck is the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial vehicles in the world. Approximately 14 trucks or buses being inspected, on average, every minute from Canada to Mexico during a 72-hour period in early June. Each year, approximately 10,000 CVSA-certified local, state, provincial and federal inspectors at 1,500 locations across North America perform the truck and bus inspections.

"Every year this event is publicized and every year the CVSA puts about 20 percent of the trucks on the road out of service for safety violations," said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director of the NPSA. "NPSA members should know that this is as heavy as enforcement gets. This Roadcheck goes on 24 hours a day, and your drivers should be ready. If one of your trucks gets stopped and cited for a violation during inspection, it will remain your company's SAFESTAT record for 30 months."

Since its inception in 1988, the CVSA reports it has conducted more than 1 million roadside inspections resulting in more than 220 lives saved and 4,045 injuries avoided. According to CVSA, the program has also provided for the distribution of educational literature and safety events to educate industry and the general public about the importance of safe commercial vehicle operations and the roadside inspection program.
