Tropical Seas' Reef Safe SunCare Deployed to Iraq for Operation Catch Fish

World's first biodegradable sunscreen is a perfect complement to fishing event for troops in Iraq.

Ormand Beach, FL, June 03, 2010 --(PR.com)-- As he prepared for his latest trip to the Middle East to bring a little taste of home to the troops, Joe Mercurio realized one mission-critical ingredient was missing. All it took was a call to Tropical Seas CEO Dan Knorr, and the problem was solved.

Knorr embraced the opportunity to provide complementary bottles of Reef Safe SunCare by Beach Buff® for Mercurio’s Operation Catch Fish, an annual event tied to the Baghdad Fishing Derby at Victory Base. Reef Safe (www.reefsafesuncare.com) was provided to all of the GIs who participated in the entertaining, yet competitive, tournament designed to boost morale for servicemen and women stationed in Iraq.

“Joe had me at ‘Iraq,’ when he called to ask if we’d supply the sunscreens,” said Knorr. “We obviously were honored to provide our products to the troops, and we were even more gratified when we heard about how popular Reef Safe was over there.”

“We’ve been using Reef Safe for the last couple of months while preparing for the 2010 PTTS series, so it only made sense to call Dan when we were getting ready for Operation Catch Fish,” said Mercurio, founder and host of the PTTS television series.

Air Force Capt. Matthew Vancleave, a logistics officer assigned to the 447th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron, bagged the winning fish, an 8 lb.-11 oz. carp. In addition to bragging rights, he won nearly $3,000 in prizes, including a portable generator, a watch and a signed Guy Harvey print.

"I never win anything," said Vancleave, from Omaha, NE. "Just catching a fish was good enough for me today."

Mercurio was joined by his PTTS co-host Sheli Sanders; Mary Delgado of ABC’s The Bachelor; trick-casting expert Gary Hain; and two New Orleans Saints cheerleaders.

Reef Safe by Beach Buff has been designated the exclusive and official sun care lotion of the 2010 PTTS and WPTTS events (www.ptts.tv). The televised PTTS is the largest and richest live release tarpon tournament series in the world, featuring five regular series events and one championship event.
