Individual Teams Select Hotels for MEAC Tournament

Hotel Bookings Part of Economic Impact for Raleigh

Raleigh, NC, December 01, 2006 --(PR.com)-- The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced today hotel assignments for each of the 11 teams comprising the MEAC and participating in the 2007 basketball tournament (see chart below).

“We are excited that these hotels have agreed to host our teams for the duration of the tournament. Revenue from hotel bookings are one important piece of the economic impact our tournament has on the City of Raleigh and all of Wake County,” said Dr. Dennis Thomas, MEAC Commissioner. “The spending at these hotels is combined with the spending on the basketball games, the concerts, the parties, and the other ancillary events should make this year’s economic impact the biggest in MEAC history.”

The teams have selected the following official hotels for their men’s and women’s teams respectively:

Ticket books are also available through Ticketmaster outlets nationwide, at all MEAC Schools box offices, or at the RBC Center box office. Individual game ticket sales do not begin until February 26, 2007.

About the MEAC Basketball Tournament:
The MEAC is a Division I basketball program comprised of 11 historically black colleges and universities located across the Atlantic coastline: Bethune-Cookman College, Coppin State University, Delaware State University, Florida A&M University, Hampton University, Howard University, University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina A&T State University, and South Carolina State University. 

The men’s and women’s basketball tournament will be played in Raleigh at least through 2008. Both the men’s and women’s tournament winner receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The first game of the 2007 MEAC Basketball Tournament tips off Tuesday, March 6, and the championship games are played on Saturday, March 10.
