The Marsh San Francisco Presents Cherry Zonkowski’s "Reading My Dad’s Porn And French Kissing The Dog" June 24 – July 17, 2010

San Francisco, CA, June 09, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Marsh is pleased to present Cherry Zonkowski, PhD, in “Reading My Dad’s Porn And French Kissing The Dog” in which she takes us on a tour of the suburban living rooms, crowded dungeons, and ultra-hip warehouses of San Francisco’s sex and artist party scenes.

When she knocks at the door of her very first sex party, the door swings open revealing a bald man in a powder blue teddy, who sweeps her up and gives her a tour. She looks at him. She looks at the sex sling. Back at the bald man. At the heaving buttocks everywhere around her. At the bald man. At the lesbians going at it in the pantry. At the bald man. Outwardly, she’s calm. Inside, she’s a wilderness of shrieking monkey-nerves. What will she do? She’s an English teacher, a PhD, a self-proclaimed snort-laughing dork. She wants to run out of this suburban orgy at top speed and take an hour-long shower. But she doesn’t know anyone else in town and she’s lonely, bored… and horny. Also she’s curious: what happens if she stays? What will she find herself doing—if she stays?

The show plays at Thursday through Saturday at 8:00 pm from June 24 – July 17, 2010 at The Marsh San Francisco Studio Theater, 1074 Valencia Street. For tickets, the public may visit www.themarsh.org or call 1-800-838-3006.

“Reading My Dad’s Porn And French Kissing The Dog” is the story of how a freak gets to be freaky, of how ‘Velma’ becomes ‘Cherry,’ of what English teachers can do on their night out. And between such adventures, Zonkowski reconstructs the evolution of an outsider, reflecting back on her childhood, of growing up in Texas, of her military dad (he’s a drunk) and of their family’s jarring move to Norway (she was once featured in the Norwegian porn magazine Cupido.) Eventually, she made her way out to California for college and never left, going on to grad school, marrying, divorcing, and supporting herself teaching freshman comp, in which she experiences the unique hell of grading papers.

Also known as the Cherry Terror, Zonkowski, has been performing in San Francisco since 2001. She is a former host of the Popcorn Anti-theater Bus, and sings bawdy parodies and old standards with accordionist Aaron “Duckmandu” Seeman, (the same man who accompanies her in musical numbers in this piece.) She has been developing the show over the past four years with David Ford at The Marsh, and has performed at many of San Francisco’s solo performance and storytelling events, including Bawdy Storytelling, Memoir Spool, Porchlight Storytelling, Tell It on Tuesday, Monday Night Marsh, Solo Sundays, Perverts Put Out, Fireside Storytelling and Words First.

Zonkowski’s 2009 Marsh Rising performance of “Reading My Dad’s Porn And French Kissing The Dog” played to an enthusiastic, sold-our crowd. Other highlights of her life: Billy Barty once bought her dinner and Spalding Gray interviewed her on stage.
