LBNL, Wildcat Discovery Technologies and EPRI Selected for $3.66 Million ARPA-E Carbon Capture Grant Award

Wildcat’s high throughput gas sorption assay to play key role in promising CO2 capture project.

San Diego, CA, June 10, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Wildcat Discovery Technologies, a technology company that uses combinatorial methods to rapidly synthesize and test new clean energy materials, announced today that the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) has awarded Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), Wildcat Discovery Technologies and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) a $3.66 million grant under the “Innovative Materials & Processes for Advanced Carbon Capture Technologies (IMPACCT)” solicitation.

“Wildcat is honored to receive this endorsement from ARPA-E and LBNL. We're thrilled to team up with LBNL and EPRI on such an important project,” said Mark Gresser, Wildcat’s CEO. "The discovery platform Wildcat designed and built for its initial work in hydrogen storage will play a major role in the Berkeley collaboration. Wildcat will design and integrate a number of new key features for use in CO2 capture measurements that will enable the team to investigate hundreds of new materials per day."

The collective team will develop high throughput characterization tools to rapidly screen new Metal Organic Framework (MOF) materials. Specific innovations in NMR tools for rapid porosity measurements and in gas sorption measurements will allow rapid evaluation of new synthetic compounds aimed at improvements in CO2 selectivity and robustness to flue gas environments. Wildcat Discovery Technologies’ engineers and scientists will develop the innovative high throughput adsorption measurement tools while EPRI will be responsible for the process modeling and evaluation based on the new material properties.

“Wildcat’s innovative approach to accelerating clean technology materials development is very exciting”, said U.S. Congressman Brian Bilbray (R-CA). “I visited their laboratory facility and was amazed by what they have accomplished. Creative and forward-thinking companies like Wildcat are why San Diego and California are at the forefront of the renewable energy revolution.”
