SMC Announces First Deployment of DOCSIS 3.0 Gateways with Midcontinent Communications

Irvine, CA, June 14, 2010 --(PR.com)-- SMC Networks, a leading provider of Customer Premise Equipment to Service Providers, announced their first deployment of SMC DOCSIS 3.0 gateways with Midcontinent Communications, the Upper Midwest’s leading provider of cable television, local and long distance telephone service, broadband Internet access, and cable advertising services to communities in North and South Dakota, and in Minnesota.

Midcontinent has launched DOCSIS 3.0 technology in many communities enabling faster Internet services, with speeds up to 50Mbps downstream and 5Mbps upstream, using DOCSIS 3.0 gateways such as the SMCD3GN. Midcontinent introduced DOCSIS 3.0 in June 2009 in Sioux Falls, SD and West Fargo, ND. This was the first launch of this type of technology in the Upper Midwest region. Launches for these faster MidcoNet Internet services will happen throughout 2010 using SMCD3GN gateways.

“We are very pleased to begin a great partnership with Midcontinent,” says Dan O’Malley, Vice President of Sales, for SMC. “We congratulate Midcontinent for their extensive deployment of DOCSIS 3.0 technology and their first deployment of SMC DOCSIS 3.0 gateways to their customers. Midcontinent’s commitment to delivering the fastest next-generation wideband Internet services is outstanding.”

The SMCD3GN Gateway is a widely-deployed DOCSIS 3.0 gateway providing 802.11n wireless connectivity to wideband Internet services. Customers are demanding faster Internet services as their requirements for bandwidth increase. Deployment of DOCSIS 3.0 gateways like the SMCD3GN enable Service Providers like Midcontinent to offer the fastest Internet services to their current and prospective customers, and offer new revenue-generating services in the future like Home Security, Monitoring, and Automation, in addition to Community WiFi.

“The SMCD3GN is a great choice for delivering the fastest MidcoNet Internet services to Midcontinent's customers," says Anthony Saccacio, Director of Sales Western Region, for SMC. "Based on DOCSIS 3.0 technology, the SMCD3GN allows our MSO customers, like Midcontinent, to increase their speed tiers, deliver the best home networking experience, provide best in class Internet services and a platform to deliver multimedia services requiring wideband capacity."

SMC DOCSIS 3.0 gateways are available for Service Providers to test and deploy in field. Please contact SMC at 1-800-SMC-4YOU / 1-800-762-4968 to learn more about our leading DOCSIS 3.0 products.
