Ridgefield, CT, June 11, 2010 --(PR.com
)-- Ralph de la Vega, the CEO of AT&T Mobility, talks on the CEO Show with Robert Reiss about the challenging personal and business opportunities he’s faced. These challenges translated into a philosophy clearly stated when he said, “Tell me that something is impossible to do, and that just makes me even more determined to figure out a way to make the impossible possible.”
Another component of successes that de la Vega discusses with Reiss is risk taking -- “reasonable risk, [taken] in search of opportunity.” “This is something that every business and every person should be encouraged to do. [It’s ] “what makes you the very best you can be.” Risk taking started early in life for de la Vega as evident when he speaks about the unexpected challenges of coming to America from Cuba as a young boy and how he subsequently discovered there is “opportunity inside every obstacle.”
During the interview with Reiss, de la Vega also talks about building Cingular’s (now AT&T Mobility's) relationship with Steve Jobs at Apple, and how the resulting confidence evolved into work on the next Apple project, the iPhone™. Another business venture de la Vega speaks about the merger of Cingular Wireless and AT&T Wireless on a schedule which observers said couldn’t be done, merging 60,000 people in 19 days. On surmounting this challenge he imparts the wisdom that if “you have a good vision, and your plan is executed well, you can break through barriers.”
Reiss asks about de la Vega’s book, ‘Obstacles Welcome’ whose objective is to present his “formula for success,” built upon confronting multiple challenges and conquering them. He explains that it is an easy to read “story about the life lessons and the business lessons learned over 30 years in business.” It’s one of those must read books for persons building a career, according to Reiss.
