The Medal Play Open at Classic Club Produced Some Tight Battles

Palm Desert, CA, June 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Medal Play Golf Tour played their second Major Championship of the season at The Classic Club on Sunday with some tight battles amongst the flights. Many of the flights were decided by a shot and all flights were very competitive. “Guys are grinding for positioning in the points race right now” commented tour director Blane Freytag, “Points reset based on current position after our next event for our Fall Finish playoff to determine the Player of the Year in each flight” added Freytag.

The A Flight was tightly contested all day with Shaun Clark outlasting Daniel Hernandez in a scorecard playoff after both gentlemen fired net par 72’s. Daniel had the lead until his approach shot found the water on 18. Daniel commented after the round that he felt good with his shot selection, he just mishit the shot. Jacob Yousef shot his best round of the season to finish two shots back.

In the B Flight, Julian Hernandez continued his recent hot streak to win by 3 shots. Julian’s recent hot play has lowered his MPGT handicap into the A Flight range. Scott Butterfield returned to action with a fine round of a net 71 to place second with Brian Curci posting 3rd with a net 72.

Alexander Maese used 5 birdies on the back side, including 4 in a row, to cruise to his first major championship win and second tour win in a row. Lee Woodard posted a very respectable net 71 for second and Rick Lehman was third with a net 73.

E Flight is always hotly contested and this event was no exception. Phil Dickens led the way with a net 67 for his first major win with Daniel Grow right on his heels a shot back with a net 68. David Onken, feeling fresh and loose from a recent vacation, fired his best round of the season to place third, 2 shots back. Only 4 shots separated the top 4 in this flight.

Stan Tankersley, who has been knocking on the door recently, crashed through for his first win on tour in the F Flight posting a net 75. Chuck Thomas came in second with a net 78 and Michael Tocchini was third.
