)-- World renowned Bollywood choreographer makes history at Disney park
Yogen, the director of LA based Bollywood Step Dance, presents a Bollywood show nightly at Disney California Adventure Park through July 5th; a first for Disney. The dancer/choreographer trained in India and brings authenticity to each dance he creates. Yogen is also influenced by his life in Southern California and blends modern styles into his pieces. "It is an honor to be able to bring Indian culture and Bollywood to Disney parks, especially as Disney embraces cultural diversity. Since visitors from all over the world will attend, I want to present various Indian styles and also add fusion elements to the performance."
The importance of these performances is not lost on Rasha Goel, Yogen's partner in dance and in life. Goel says, "This is the first time in the history of Disney parks where they are showcasing a full Bollywood show." The married couple leads a busy life. Goel manages Bollywood Step Dance and is a broadcast journalist. Yogen is a full time civil engineer who works for Los Angeles County. Engineering and dance are worlds apart, yet Yogen finds a connection. He explains, "Both involve envisioning, creating and constructing an end product that is unique; both involve team work and project management; and both present challenges of competition motivating me to strive for the best."
Yogen recently signed on as choreographer with Nuclear Mango Studios for the film, "Politics of Love." He has also appeared on "Ellen" and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and was featured last month in "Variety."
The Bollywood show is part of Disney's "Glowfest" and is presented at 6:30pm and 7:30pm each night at Sunshine Plaza in Disney California Adventure Park. After the performances, the dancers mingle with the audience.
