)-- ShowMeCables, a St. Louis-based e-commerce wholesaler of voice, audio, and data solutions, recognized yesterday the ratification of the 100 Gigabit Ethernet standard by the IEEE P802.3ba Ethernet Task Force. Known alternatively by its official name—the IEEE 802.3ba—the standard promises speeds of up to 100 GB/s over Ethernet networks in forthcoming products, although some field reports have already confirmed the speeds on non-standard hardware. The standard was brought forth mainly by the “ubiquitous adoption of bandwidth-intensive technologies and applications,” including video chat, social networking, and “converged network services,” according to John D’Ambrosia, the chair of the Task Force.
Although ShowMeCables has yet to introduce products or equipment based on the new standard, the company is excited at the evolution of the Ethernet standard and eagerly anticipates receiving new products—cables, connectors, and the like—based on the new standard. In the meantime, though, ShowMeCables continues to stock a full range of “standard-speed” Ethernet products and services.
