London, United Kingdom, June 25, 2010 --(PR.com
)-- Leading British Bookmakers williamhill.com have installed Paul Le Guen as their 2.50 favourite to succeed Pim Verbeek as manager (head coach) of the Socceroos.
Verbeek stepped down as manager of the Australian national team following the Socceroos’ elimination from the World Cup on Wednesday evening.
Other names being mentioned for the vacant position include Sven Goran Eriksson (5.00), Gerard Houllier (8.00), Ottmar Hitzfeld (9.00), and the current ‘All Whites’ boss - Ricki Herbert (11.00)
Some the outsiders to take over from Pim include: the disgraced former French manager Raymond Domenech (51.00), the current England boss Fabio Capello (25-1), and the aptly named Ossie Ardiles (13.00) - who has already thrown his hat into the ring.
"Paul Le Guen is still the coach of the Cameroon national team, but punters seem to believe that he could be on his way down under," said williamhill.com spokesman Tony Kenny "The Football Federation Australia chairman Frank Lowy has said that he’ll pay top dollar to get his new coach – so there will definitely be a lot of top coaches interested in the position."
