Boulder, CO, June 30, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Third Patent Strengthens Intellectual Property Base, Raises Total Number of Claims to Seventy

Massively Parallel Technologies, Inc. (MPT), a pioneer in software technologies for the development, execution, and monetization of modern scalable applications, today announced that it has been awarded its third patent. U.S. Patent number 7,730,121 contains 38 claims and addresses data movement, parallel software development, and checkpoint/restart techniques. This new patent expands the substantial intellectual property related to parallel processing technologies now owned by the company, which includes U.S. Patent No. 7,418,470 with nine claims and U.S. Patent No. 6,857,004 with 23 claims. These patents provide the technical foundation for a new suite of products to be announced in phases later this year.

“Our expanding patent claims portfolio represents a significant collection of intellectual property. It speaks highly to MPT’s technology and the ground breaking products we have under development,” said Bobbi Hazard, CEO of MPT.

Data movement efficiency is at the heart of parallel and distributed systems and has broad uses in communication systems and networking. The patent’s Composite Functions Development model offers a new programming technique for parallel systems. Checkpoint/Restart is a technique that allows a long-running computer application to take a periodic snapshot (called a checkpoint) of its state so that it is prepared to recover from system failures by restarting from a previous checkpoint. Applications that run on highly scalable systems need such a capability since the likelihood of system failures typically increases as the system infrastructure becomes larger. In addition, an application may perform a checkpoint, pause, and restart on a different computer, thus relocating to another system, a scenario that is commonly required in modern virtualized data centers and cloud computing sites.

“MPT technologies can revolutionize how parallel applications are constructed by providing a structured and significantly more simplified process than current development environments can offer,” said Kevin Howard, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of MPT. “They can also revolutionize the achieved performance of grid systems and cloud computing by providing a software environment that can actually use all of the hardware capability and not lose efficiency as the software utilizes more cores and nodes.”

“We are very fortunate to have such a strong technology foundation in our company,” said Scott Smith, Chairman of the Board at MPT. “As multi-core systems and large clusters become more ubiquitous in corporate America and the government, a paradigm shift in application development is required to realize the benefits of new technologies.”
