Enterprise Rent-A-Car to be Honored by the Department of Defense

Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the largest rental car company in North America, will be honored by the Department of Defense for its support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.

St. Louis, MO, August 16, 2005 --(PR.com)-- Mr. David Janes, National Chairman for the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense agency, today congratulated Enterprise Rent-A-Car as a 2005 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award recipient.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the largest rental car company in North America, was one of only 15 employers selected in July 2005 from nearly 1,500 nominations from National Guardsmen and Reservists for this prestigious award from the ESGR.

Robert Landry, Army Reserve Major, and Sales Manager for Enterprise Fleet Services in Alpharetta, Ga., a division of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, nominated Enterprise as a candidate for this award. “I nominated Enterprise Rent-A-Car because it has always supported me personally and professionally. It taught me the power of teamwork, service, integrity, commitment, and honor while I was in the states – ideas that I took with me overseas. Enterprise didn’t just prepare me for the challenges I would face; it stood beside me through them,” Landry said.

Enterprise pays the salary differential for employees on active duty in the National Guard or Reserve, so Enterprise employees can continue to receive full pay, as well as benefits throughout the duration of their service. Enterprise currently has about 500 employees currently serving in the National Guard and Reserve.

The company’s connection to the military goes back to Jack Taylor, a decorated U.S. Navy fighter pilot who flew combat missions over the Pacific. After the war, he returned to his hometown of St. Louis and, in 1957, founded the company known today as Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The company’s name is a salute to one of the aircraft carriers Taylor served aboard – the U.S.S. Enterprise.

“While we at Enterprise are honored to receive this recognition, we understand the real heroes are those who answer the call to duty,” said Andy Taylor, Chairman and CEO of Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Then-Secretary of Defense William Perry, instituted the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award in 1996 under the auspices of the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. The award publicly recognizes employers, who are nominated by their employees who are voluntarily serving in the National Guard and Reserve, for exceptional support above the requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994.

“All Americans can be justly proud of our Nation’s employers for their exceptional support of our men and women in the National Guard and Reserves during these demanding times. Enterprise Rent-A-Car, through its personnel programs provides a fine example of an employer’s recognition of the sacrifice these young people make in defense of our freedoms and way of life. The Department of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award is a tribute to Enterprise Rent-A-Car for its leadership and support,” said Janes.

Other 2005 recipients include Alticor, Incorporated, Citizens Financial Group, Eaton Corporation, IDACORP, Los Angeles Police Department, Louisiana Department of Safety & Corrections, Pioneer Financial Services, Ryland Homes, Sears, Roebuck and Co., South Dakota State University, the State of Delaware, Toyota Motor Sales, USA, USAA and Wachovia Corporation. The Award ceremonies will take place at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. on October 15, 2005, the 10th anniversary of the award program.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car operates more than 700,000 rental and fleet services vehicles worldwide and has annual revenues of $7.4 billion. Last year, Enterprise opened more than 500 new locations, increasing its total locations to more than 6,000. The company operates nearly 800 offices in Canada, United Kingdom, Germany and Ireland. Enterprise is currently number 16 on the Forbes “500 Largest Private Companies in America” list. For more information about Enterprise visit www.enterprise.com.
