Michigan Sea Grant Wins APEX Award of Excellence for Website Designed by Kalamazoo Firm

Kalamazoo, MI, July 09, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Michigan Sea Grant Extension earned an APEX Award of Excellence for the website www.greatlakeswhitefish.com, a site designed by Kalamazoo-based Newhall Klein, Inc. The 22nd annual awards program is conducted by Communications Concepts, Inc. of Springfield, Va., and recognizes excellence in communication as measured by the quality of graphic design, editorial content and overall presentation (www.apexawards.com).

The winning website was part of a marketing initiative headed by Michigan State University’s Sea Grant program to increase the sustainability of Great Lakes fishing communities. The website emphasizes “eat local” appeal by including a behind-the-scenes look at the life of the fishermen and recipes developed by notable Michigan chefs. With inviting photography and easy navigation, the site serves as a go-to resource for all things whitefish. Newhall Klein also designed a logo and retail packaging for Legends of the Lakes brand to further establish Great Lakes Whitefish as the choice for healthy and delicious local fish.

“We are thrilled that our client and friends have earned this honor,” says Newhall Klein president Sandy Klein. “This website is an example of how a nonprofit organization can use marketing dollars wisely to effectively promote their product and establish a web presence for their cause.”
