Bardsley Construction Expect Cost Savings Following Workspace Implementation by Union Square Software

Contractor purchases knowledge management platform in order worth over 80,000 pounds Sterling

Nottingham, United Kingdom, July 09, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Bardsley Construction has purchased Workspace from Union Square Software for their 76 PC users. The system will introduce a central repository for documents and emails and a single database of contacts, organisations, enquiries and projects. Bardsley will also use the system to control document issue and manage their supply chain.

Located in Manchester, the 85m pounds Sterling turnover construction firm places an emphasis on partnerships with public sector clients including local authorities, education bodies, housing associations and health authorities.

Bardsley recognised that the existence of multiple systems within the business was causing poor communications and inefficiencies. 4Projects was used for drawing control and external collaboration; Coins for finance; Excel for numerous contact lists, HR and supply chain information; Outlook for emails and Network Shares for storing and sharing documents.

Independently many of these systems did a good job, however there was nothing to bind the information together to provide a single view. Duplication of data was common and employees were becoming frustrated with the speed of systems and difficulty of information access particularly from site.

Bardsley Group Financial Director Stephen Purkis led the search for a new system which would unify the company’s access to data. When Stephen and his team found Union Square Software and Workspace they instantly recognised its potential. Stephen comments: “Workspace has the functionality to solve all of our key organisational issues. Most importantly it will introduce a centralised approach to data management and enable us to tidy up our quality management procedures.”

One of the biggest draws of Workspace is the close integration of documents and emails, which through the systesm are stored in one place. The proven supply chain management capabilities were also an important factor. Stephen added: “Workspace is an effective tool for managing all the processes and tracking all activities with our supply chain. By managing enquiries and projects more effectively we can ensure that we are maximizing opportunities and achieving continuous improvement.”

Currently there are up to three different information silos for contracts, Workspace will ensure that there is one database and that this knowledge can be used by all departments within the company including business development and project delivery, reducing re-work and re-keying of data.

Bardsley expects site communications to improve following the implementation. Its site staff will be able to access up to date files instantly and will no longer have to manage paper files on site.

Stephen also expects to see an improvement to the “bottom line” through substantial efficiency gains.

“Workspace will enable everyone within Bardsley to work more effectively through reducing re-work and duplication of effort. We will also be able to improve our success in winning bids through a more effective analysis of previous bid performance.” The system goes live in September 2010.
