Fuchs Mizrachi School Students Publish Book on Civil War

Authoring stories of time travel empowers Lower School youth to teach and learn

Cleveland, OH, December 12, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Fuchs Mizrachi School Lower School proudly announces that six of its fifth grade students have published Back to the Civil War, a collection of stories of time travel. As a part of a project in their fourth grade reading group, Ari Bar-Shain, Adina Fink, Bentzion Goldman, Leah Jablon, Evan Jaffe and Yair Polster went back in time to experience various elements of Civil War life. Their teacher and Lower School principal, Rabbi Shmuel Jablon, served as editor of the book.

“We read a book called A Pitch in Time, which is a work of historical fiction set in the Civil War era,” explains Rabbi Jablon. “The students then had the opportunity to write their own works of historical fiction. They were required to be historically accurate, while still writing a creative story. The students were very enthusiastic to see their work put together in book form. The book was meant to encourage the students and give them a product to feel good about.”

Back to the Civil War is a 25 page book, available in print and downloadable form. All of the profits earned by the young authors go to Fuchs Mizrachi School. The recipient of the Jerusalem Prize in 1995, Fuchs Mizrachi School received the 2003 No Child Left Behind – Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence.
