West River, MD, July 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Scottie is a typical 12-year-old boy, an overconfident class clown and practical joker who thinks nothing of pulling pranks on his younger sister and brother. But a fateful family trip to Heron’s Lake, the local picnic spot, changes everything. A visit to the wishing well and a mysterious windstorm leads to a surprising transformation. Although he is pleased at first, soon Scottie is in a struggle to survive. Suddenly, life with annoying younger siblings, homework and chores is appealing. Will he make it back to his family and return to himself, or will he be forever changed?

The Strange Wish, published by Dog Ear Publishing, tells the story of Scottie’s transformation and introduces readers to a cast of unusual characters during this amazing journey. Vicious dogs, a hurricane, an angry mockingbird and a close call with a well-meaning rescuer are just a few of the obstacles he’ll encounter during his attempt to return home. Amusing incidents occur as well, such as a tea party that requires he wear a pink dress, feathered hat and necklaces, hosted by the neighborhood’s terrible twins, and an unforgettable encounter with the two Persian cats of the house.

Author Angela Messina Ollweiler, an elementary school teacher in Maryland, has taught children in first, third and fourth grade for 19 years. One of her goals as an educator has been to inspire children to find joy and wonder in books. Illustrations by D.R. Ollweiler, the author’s brother-in-law, help to narrate the book’s action. Before his death, Dale was a luthier by trade, repairing and creating guitars. He was a talented musician and photographer, as well as an artist.
