The Netherlands capital’s famous open air film festival, Pluk de Nacht, is slated for 5 to 15 August this year, and is expected to attract thousands of visitors.

Amsterdam, Netherlands, July 12, 2010 --( Amsterdam’s Pluk de Nacht outdoor film festival is famous for screening art and indie films which have won acclaim at international film festivals but have never been commercially screened by major cinema chains. The lively event is free, and draws movie buffs from across Europe as well as local fans.

A giant outdoor screen is set up, with beach chairs available for hire. Camp fires and blankets are on hand for cooler evenings, and art projects dot the viewing area. Meals, snacks, beer, spirits and soft drinks are readily available from stalls, and the nightly movies are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

The screenings begin while it’s still light with short clips and movies entertaining the crowds. After dark, the main film of the evening is shown. Many indie movie enthusiasts stay for the full ten days of the festival or even longer making hotel Amsterdam bookings close to event more difficult than usual, according to, the online booking experts.

“Booking online well ahead of the start date of the festival is the best way to secure a room in the area,” says Lek Boonlert,’ marketing head. Boonlert goes on, “Film festivals always draw the crowds, and Amsterdam is popular during the summer season. Booking online is the way to go.”
