Auxiliary to be Formed for Local Retirement Community

Magnolia Manor of St. Simons is proud to announce the development of its auxiliary. Magnolia Manor Auxiliary members will work for the good of the residents and serve as ambassadors to the community-at-large.

Saint Simons Island, GA, July 14, 2010 --(PR.com)-- A historic and vital event took place on the evening of May 20th in the Heritage House at Magnolia Manor of St. Simons. Several dozen locals attended the first ever planning dinner for the newly established Magnolia Manor Auxiliary. Invited by Diane Smith, wife of former Saint Simons Island United Methodist Church pastor Jim Smith, attendees arrived with only one notion in mind: advocating for residents of Magnolia Manor.

Magnolia Manor leaders Jackie Crisp, Campus Administrator, and Jackie Newman, Assistant Administrator, identified a need for an auxiliary immediately when they arrived last fall. In looking for volunteers who wanted to form an auxiliary and advocate for the residents of Magnolia Manor. Crisp and Newman made connections, formed relationships, and extended invitations to a kickoff dinner. One thing is for sure: it didn’t take long for locals to realize Crisp and Newman both lead with purpose, passion, and path and are just two of the many Magnolia Manor leaders and employees devoted to residents and their families.

According to Smith, leading and advocating for the auxiliary is Debbie Pease. Pease is a native of the island who once served as the older adult coordinator at the Saint Simons UMC and is known to have a heart for the elderly. Pease is not only dedicated to helping fulfill the needs of residents, but also realizes the need for more awareness of the services offered by the Magnolia Manor campus. Astoundingly, only a week into this journey there are already more than thirty charter members.

The mission of the auxiliary is to support Magnolia Manor’s effort to create a community of care for senior adults on St. Simons Island. Auxiliary members will be able to greatly contribute to the quality of life of all campus residents and their families. When asked of the initial expectations of the kickoff dinner, Smith, who spearheaded the event, responded with, “I knew from experience the people in this community care about the residents of Magnolia Manor of Saint Simons. In knowing this, I believe the word of this mission will spread, relationships will be formed and cultivated, the auxiliary will grow fruitfully, and challenges will be both met and overcome.” With the overwhelming number of applications submitted and contributions made during the kickoff dinner, Smith’s sentiments ring true.

According to Smith, charter members are already beginning to take on projects such as involving local church youth groups in making personal care packages for nursing home residents as well as raising money to buy new chairs and wheelchair scales for the nursing home.
