Elvis Tribute Contest and Festival Honors "The King" Aug. 6 & 7

Dover, DE, July 21, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Fire & Ice at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino will celebrate the life of “The King of Rock & Roll,” the late Elvis Aaron Presley, who would have been 75 this year. A competition to determine the best Elvis tribute artist will be presented through a series of performances on Aug. 6 & 7.

A full line up of Elvis tribute artists from New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and as far away as Detroit, Mich., have signed on to pay homage to the legendary music icon. Performers come in all shapes and experience levels. Will Debley of Mount Airy, Md., is a three-time finalist in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artists Preliminary Contest and is featured in the films At The Gates and What Would Elvis Do?

Local contestant Rob Lutz of Smyrna became a tribute artist just by pure luck in September 2005 at an Elvis tribute contest in Dewey Beach (Del.). “I’ve been an Elvis fan since I was knee high because of his amazing voice.” Lutz was hooked and has returned to the Dewey event every year since. “Elvis fans have such a great time and when I saw how they support the performers, it just grew from there. It’s a great atmosphere to be in and I am so privileged to be a part of it. The fans support us and keep us going.”

Contestants will perform throughout the property beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 6. The official competition begins at 8 p.m. on the stage in Fire & Ice at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino. On Saturday, August 7, entertainment starts at 6 p.m. with Elvis Karaoke, Elvis Trivia, and a performance by local Elvis Presley tribute artist, Jim Parsley. Contestants will then begin semi-final competitions. The Top 5 winners will be announced at 10 p.m. and receive prizes of $1500, $1000, $500, $250 or $125 cash.

Tickets are $10 each evening, available at the door of Fire & Ice at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino. For information, contact Jeannine Lahey at 302-857-2166. Restaurants on site will serve Elvis’ favorite foods throughout the weekend including grilled peanut butter, honey and banana sandwiches, meatloaf, spaghetti stir fry, banana pudding, pepper steak, Southern pecan pie, tortilla soup and broccoli casserole.
