ParentYourParents.com CEO and Co-Founder, Amber Sandhoff, Was a Guest on Great Day Houston

On July 14 the Great Day Houston program on KHOU focused on “The Golden Years” and had guests providing resources to help seniors and their adult children.

Las Vegas, NV, July 20, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Amber Sandhoff, CEO and co-founder of www.ParentYourParents.com was a guest discussing “The Golden Years” on Great Day Houston with Deborah Duncan. Sandhoff shared some of her personal experiences in “parenting her parents” as well as information caregivers can find on ParentYourParents.com to help their aging parents and loved ones.

In August of 2008, Sandhoff, along with her business partner Karen Frye, launched ParentYourParents.com after suddenly being thrust into a caregiver’s role. With no notice she found herself in a position of caring for her ill father long distance. Upon seeing him in the hospital and talking with his doctor’s, none were optimistic, she started a caregiver’s journey that continues today.

On the heels of the crisis with her father her step-father, who had a setback with treatment for prostate Cancer, chose to stop all treatment. As her step-father’s wish was to remain at home, Sandhoff was faced with helping her mother go through the terrible heartbreak of letting her husband go.

Going through these life experiences, Sandhoff realized she was not alone in having to face and deal with aging parent’s health and livelihood. “Our parents not only look to us for help, but they see us as a resource and depend on us for guidance. That is why I decided to launch this website,” says Sandhoff. “To help people who don’t know where to turn for help and information about caring for their aging parents.”

In May of this year, Sandhoff’s 89 year old grandmother died after living with dementia for nearly 8 years in an assisted living community. “My 65 year old mother and I watched her decline over the past few years. We were fortunate and blessed that we chose a community (purely by accident) that could assist and care for her as the disease progressed and the level of care she needed increased. Not all assisted living communities offer increased levels of care, which would have meant moving her to another and would have been very traumatic for her,” explains Sandhoff.

“The more I talk about our website and my experiences, the more I realize there are many others out there like me. They are looking for information, resources and assistance for their aging parents and loved ones. I am very proud ParentYourParents.com offers such a wide variety national, state and local resources to our visitors,” Sandhoff concludes.
